Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! We are hard at work on our Native American research projects and are excited for our upcoming Native American museum scheduled for Friday, December 9th @12:30-1:15. 4th graders are enjoying writing their own Legends and researching topics on the Iroquois. We also enjoyed reading The Thanksgiving Story by Alice Dalgliesh about the first Thanksgiving.
We've had some special guests visit Craig's 4th graders recently: Bill "Mountain Man" Staulters presented to the kids about Native Americans and survival in the wild. Former Niskayuna student-athlete and NFL player Andre Davis visited Craig and shared his experiences with the kids and talked about setting goals and perseverance!

Full Swing in September!
We are settled into our 4th grade routine and are enjoying several activities and topics in our classroom!
In writing, we have explored "Personal Narrative" and have chosen a "small moment" to write about. We will go through the writing process: Brainstorming-Rough Draft-Editing-Revising- and will type our Final Copy using Google Docs.
In reading, our skill of focus this month has been Character. We are reading several stories in our Scholastic Storyworks magazine and have also enjoyed the book The BFG by Roald Dahl together as a class.
In Social Studies, we have begun our New York State unit of study by labeling important places on the New York State map and talking about the geography of New York by reading The Big Rock by Bruce Hiscock. We will kick off our Native Americans unit next week by visiting the Brokkside Museum in Ballston Spa on October 6. http://www.brooksidemuseum.org/
In Health, our first unit covers all things "Safety", including ways to be safe at home, in school, and on the internet.
Please note upcoming important dates!
